During set dates this year, we are offering gourmet snowshoe walking days, a snowshoe experience with a difference. These are to suit all abilities and fitness levels, with an interest in French cuisine.
Based in Morzine (French Alps), we will explore stunning locations with fantastic views of the Mont Blanc Massif and Haute Giffre. Learning as we go about nature, food and taking in amazing vistas of high mountains and glaciers, with the highlight of the day indulging in local delicacies.
In the French Alps food and gastronomy play a tremendous part in the culture and daily life. Alpine cuisine is known to be quite rich and calorific as it originates from when mountain villages were isolated from the roads and other regions for months at a time during long, snowy winters. Through the generations, the French Alps have kept all the local recipes, creating incredibly tasty dishes that we’d like to share with you. Cheese and meats feature heavily on the menu, and the french Alps are widely renowned for a number of local dishes, along with delightful sweet treats served up for deserts. Not to mention the large selection of French wines and mountain liqueurs, there is something to suit everyone’s pallet.
We will take you on a short snowshoe journey taking in the stunning mountain scenery as we go. Stopping for lunch to enjoy the cuisine of the French Alps and then continue our journey to finish the day.
A snowshoe is footwear for walking over deep snow. This allows people to access areas in deep powder with ease. Snowshoes work by distributing the weight of a person over a larger area so that one’s foot does not completely sink into the snow; a technique known as “flotation”. When undertaken as a journey, snowshoeing can be enjoyed as a form of hiking.
Here at Mountain Yak, we are snowshoe experts. We only use qualified UIML International Mountain Leaders to lead and teach snowshoeing trips. This is the only recognised qualification for Snowshoeing and a legal requirement in most of Europe.
You will need to dress in appropriate winter clothing, winter footwear (eg walking boots or snow boots), and have a small bag with water/drink along with some food/snacks and warm layers. For more details click useful info page.
